Goals and challenges

More sustainable energy districts

Energy is one of the most critical factors in making production chains more efficient and less polluting. NZD aims to reduce energy consumption and increase the use of renewables within districts, promoting the adoption of solutions that can be installed on roofs, parking areas, and available spaces. NZD also promotes intelligent energy management through coordination between businesses and stakeholders, in order to foster shared projects, replicable solutions, and the dissemination of results among all partner cities.

Reduction of water consumption

In a context marked by droughts and extreme weather events, NZD aims to promote practices for water recovery, treatment, and reuse, building on effective models such as the one developed by GIDA in Prato's textile district. The goal is to make these solutions scalable, adaptable to different production sectors, and supported by the contribution of each partner.

Transformative policies for climate neutrality

The project supports the creation of new local policies that accelerate the ecological transition, translating territorial needs into concrete strategies. Through co-design processes with businesses, citizens, and administrations, districts can steer local development towards climate neutrality, influence urban strategies, and build shared objectives.

Strengthening multilevel governance

To make change truly effective, NZD aims to improve coordination between municipalities, territorial authorities, businesses, and services, overcoming policy fragmentation. The intent is to create a coherent decision-making process capable of responding to the real needs of the territory, fostering stronger and more integrated governance.

Engagement of the entire urban ecosystem

The climate transition must be fair and inclusive, which is why NZD promotes the involvement of administrations, businesses, citizens, and all territorial actors. The project stimulates the creation of lasting networks and partnerships and promotes the sharing of knowledge, skills, and best practices. In this way, the synergies generated can extend beyond individual interventions, contributing to strengthening a stable culture of collaboration.

Strengthening the skills of administrations

To accelerate the ecological transition, administrations need trained personnel. The project supports this process through dedicated training activities for municipal officials, continuous updates on innovative models and best practices, and the development of new skills useful for managing energy and environmental transformation in an integrated manner.
